A lovely old pub right on Putney Heath, completely refurbished and extended, all in traditional style, at the end of 2003. There are now four rooms off the main front bar, one of which, overlooking the garden, is no smoking. The building can be traced back to around 1700, although some maps show an earlier pub called the Anchor on the site. Putney Heath was a noted duelling spot in the 17th, 18th and early 19th centuries. The area became notorious for highwaymen and Dick Turpin is rumoured to have hidden his guns upstairs at the Green Man. Challenge your general knowlede and come down to the Green Man Quiz night on Tuesday evenings from 8.30pm.
